Red Cliff Valley is located at the foot of Mount Tai, part of the Taihang Mountains Mountains. It rose during the Mesozoic Yan Mountains Movement, which turned it into a mountain. It is over 100 million years old and is a rocky mountain area with varied terrain. The scenic area has undulating peaks and steep cliffs. The u-shaped canyon is spectacular. The highest point is the horn saddle, which is 2,566.6 meters high. It is the highest peak of Taiyueh Mountain, the highest peak of Jinzhong and the fifth highest peak of Shanxi Province. The terrain is high in the east and low in the West, and there is a main ditch at the bottom of the red cliff. The climate is typically temperate, with strong continental climate, four distinct seasons, and climate change, summer, winter, spring, and autumn. The annual mean temperature of Hongya Grand Canyon is 10.7 °C, the monthly mean minimum temperature is 3.7 °C, and the monthly mean maximum temperature is 23.7 °C. There are 233 species of woody plants belonging to 44 families, 99 Genera, 62 families and 500 species. From the bottom of the cliff can be divided into four vertical zones: The SHRUB and reclamation zone below 1200 meters, the Temperate broadleaf and mixed forest zone below 1200 meters, the main tree species are Pinus Tabulaeformis, spruce, Aspen, Birch, Betula albosinensis and other coniferous forest zone, mainly LARIX PRINCIPIS-RUPPRECHTII, 1800 -- 200 meters above sea level and 2,200 meters above valley floor, the shrubby mountains can be seen as green forest resources, lush trees and herbaceous plant. More precious Chinese herbs are "Ganoderma Lucidum" , "fog Ganoderma lucidum" , "pig Qin" , "warehouse shop" , "Codonopsis Pilosula" and so many, known as "the treasure house of biodiversity. Hongya gorge has more than 160 species of animals, including 40 species of mammals, 120 species of birds, including leopards, musk deer, roe deer, black stork, wild goats, wild boar, blue sheep, foxes, rabbits, pheasants, owls and so on. The comprehensive environmental quality of the scenic spot is good, and the atmospheric environmental quality reaches the second-class standard of "Environmental Air Quality Standard" (309551996) . The scenic spot water quality is good, reaches the drinking water first class standard, does not have the pollution, has "the north China Green Lung" , "the natural oxygen bar" the good reputation.
